Bitumen is a viscous, black liquid or semi-solid material that is formed when crude oil is heated to high temperatures. It is primarily made up of hydrocarbons and asphaltenes, and has a wide range of uses, including as a binder in asphalt concrete, a waterproofing agent, and an additive in various industries. There are different types of bitumen, such as Bitumen 40/50, 60/70, 80/100, and 85/100.
Bitumen 40/50 has a penetration of 40-50 mm and a softening point of around 40°C. It is suitable for use as a binder or waterproofing agent in various applications, such as roofing and pavement construction. Bitumen 60/70 has a higher penetration (60-70 mm) and softening point, making it suitable for more demanding applications such as cold weather asphalt and concrete mixes.
